Sperm Banking Crisis is Coming
The escalating crisis that has gripped US sperm banks has hit UK shores according to experts.
Industry Analyst, Imar Huanka, said: "The problem in sperm banks in the US was characterised by a strong period of growth, which was being artificially stimulated, but this then reached a point of no return - meaning a peak, and then a period of deflation was inevitable. In the last few weeks we've seen that picture repeated in sperm banks in the UK."
The story was broken by Independent newspaper journalist, Ed Jaques-Ylation: "I had a friend who was a regular sperm donor, and I - er, he - noticed that they were increasing the pressure on depositors to make larger or more frequent deposits. There seemed to be a demand that was outstripping supply - a liquidty problem. I began to investiagte and found the problem was huge, and threatening the whole system."
In recent months the banks have tried many ways to increase deposits. They've tried raising the interest rate with the range of customer service options they provide, with some valued clients even offered Private Wanking managers.
These managers offered a range of extra services to regular clients including 'hedging' - not a normal part of sperm banking practice.
But none of those steps seems to have solved the problem, and there are now calls for the government to step in to restore confidence and head off the coming problems.
